Federal Requirements on Immigration and Permits
As a study permit holder in Canada, it is crucial to understand and fulfill the responsibilities and obligations associated with your permit. Failure to meet these conditions may result in the loss of your student status and study permit, potentially leading to your departure from Canada. Therefore, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with these conditions and ensure compliance to maintain your status as a student in Canada. To learn more about this, visit: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/prepare-arrival/study-permit-conditions.html
Designated Learning Institution Compliance Reporting

As mandated by regulations, East Coast Trades College is obligated to provide regular reports to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) regarding the enrollment status of international students during the Fall and Spring semesters. It is imperative for international students to demonstrate consistent and satisfactory progress in their study program and adhere to the requirements for maintaining their immigration status in Canada.
Keeping Crucial Documentation

Whenever traveling in and out of Canada, it is essential to have your passport, visa, study or work permit, and family information readily available. It is advisable to keep photocopies of each document and an electronic copy in a secure location that can be accessed both online and offline. This ensures that you have the necessary documentation at all times and can easily provide them when required.

It is crucial to ensure that you have all necessary documentation with you when entering Canada, especially financial documentation to demonstrate your ability to cover the costs of your studies. In the event of any changes to your health or legal status while in Canada, it is advisable to seek guidance from a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or Canadian Immigration Lawyer before leaving the country. This will help ensure that you comply with all immigration requirements and avoid any issues when re-entering Canada.

Ensuring the validity of your immigration documents is crucial for your stay in Canada. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the requirements for international student visas, permits, and immigration processes. Additionally, consider exploring provincial immigration programs and resources provided by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. It's essential to stay informed and proactive in maintaining the validity of your immigration documents throughout your time in Canada.
Study Permits that have Expired.
If you allow your study permit to expire without applying for an extension, you are required to cease studying and working immediately. Failing to do so will lead to a violation of your status in Canada. In this case, you will need to apply for a restoration of your status, which can only be done within Canada. It's important to note that you will not be able to leave the country until an officer makes a decision on your case, which can take several months. Additionally, there is no guarantee that you will receive a new study permit if you have to apply for restoration.
Learn more about restoration applications here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/extend-study-permit/expired-permit.html
Study Permits that have been Lost.
If you have lost your study permit, you will be required to apply for a replacement permit by launching an application called a replacement of an immigration document.
Please find information about this application here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/application-verification-status-replacement-immigration-document.html
